Two including member of the Philippine Army accused of robbery extortion were arrested yesterday, February 25, 2014 around 4:30 pm at RUSTICA Restaurant along Maharlika Hi-Way Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija in a successful joint entrapment operation by the Anti-Cybercrime Group Cyber Response Team and members of the Cabanatuan City Police.

The suspects were identified as 1st Lieutenant DARREL SILVA MORALES, alleged member of Philippine Army and his companion JOSE ANGELES SUVA-VIOLA II, both residents of Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija.

Seized from their possession are one fully automatic firearm (bushmaster) caliber 223-5.56 mm (model XM15-E2S) with serial number L437132 loaded with one magazine with 19 rounds of ammunition, one small firearm (Shotgun Armscor) 12 gauge (model 30 R) without serial number and loaded with six rounds of ammunition, 12 rounds of ammunition (shotgun), two mobile phones with SIM cards, one 4-wheel Kennedy type motor vehicle without plate number (color: camauflage), money amounting to Php 1,480.00, and assorted identification cards including two AFP IDs owned by Morales with ID numbers A11-E-35431 and AFPSN 815663.

PNP ACG Director PSSUPT GILBERT C SOSA said that the operation stemmed from the complaint received by the office on February 22, 2014 from Ms. Alicia Manabo Holgado, a call center owner in Cabanatuan City.  She opined that certain Lt. Daniel Morales and three others whom they introduced themselves as members of the Philippine Army came to her office twice sometime in January and February this year purposely to demand protection money.  The suspects also said that they are connected with CIDG, NBI and with the Director of Anti-Cybercrime Command name General Sosa.  The complainant said that she was threatened by them and have asked protection money for her business not be raided and compromised.

Arrested suspects are now in the custody of ACG.  A case for violation of section 12.2 of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunitions Regulation Act) and robbery/extortion case are being readied against Morales and Suva-Viola II.
